TO THE 70th ANNIVERSARY OF THE HERO OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION HYDRONAUT EVGENIY SERGEEVICH CHERNYAYEV
Abstract
The article was prepared for the 70th anniversary of the birth and the 50th anniversary of the work of the famous pilot of the deep manned submersibles ”MIR” and “Pisces”, Hero of the Russian Federation (2008), veteran of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences – Evgeny Chernyaev. Being one of the best pilots of deep manned submersibles in the world, Evgeny Chernyaev has performed over 420 dives, spent about 3.9 thousand hours underwater in the waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic Oceans and Lake Baikal. He has nine dives to the site of the sinking of the nuclear submarine K-278 “Komsomolets” in the Norwegian Sea (1989), where Evgeny Chernyaev and his colleagues carried out work on preserving the bow of its hull, as well as over 10 hours of video filming and 30 fragments raised to the surface during an expedition in the Barents Sea at the site of the sunken nuclear submarine missile cruiser “Kursk” (2000). In 2007, during the High-Latitude Deep-Sea Expedition “Arktika-2007”, Evgeny Chernyaev piloted the “MIR-2” submersible together with Anatoly Sagalevich, who piloted the “MIR-1” and performed a historic dive at the geographic point of the North Pole. For this work, the participants were awarded orders, and pilots Sagalevich A. M., Chernyaev E. S. and Arctic explorer A. N. Chilingarov were awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation with the presentation of a special distinction – the Gold Star medal. Despite the fact that E. S. Chernyaev has been working at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences for half a century, information about him is published in the Journal of Oceanological Research for the first time. Considering that the article presents wellknown historical facts, the authors do not claim the originality of the materials, since they were previously published by the Publishing House of the Institute of Oceanology on the official portal, as well as other Internet publications, news agencies and newspapers, and are collected in this article exclusively for the history of the Institute of Oceanology in connection with the anniversary of our comrade and colleague. Wherever possible, links to previously published materials are provided.
