Abstract

Irina Petrovna Chubarenko, an outstanding oceanographer, hydrophysicist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Sea Physics, and Chief Researcher at the Atlantic Department of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, passed away at the age of 65. Irina’s research interests covered a wide range of issues and topics related to coastal hydrodynamics, convection, thermohydrodynamics of interaction between shelf and open waters, physical limnology, mixing processes, and the transport of particles with variable properties, such as microplastics in water, ice, and at the water-bottom interface. She has trained a new generation of future scientists, with 50 MIPT students, four PhDs, and five more who are ready to defend their theses in the near future.
