Abstract

The article is devoted to the 65th anniversary of the 25th cruise of the R/V “Vityaz” to the Western Pacific Ocean under the program of the International Geophysical Year and the 95th anniversary of the participant of this voyage, the outstanding Soviet oceanologist Konstantin Nikolaevich Fedorov. Based on the materials of well-known publications, the composition of the cruise, its duration, and important scientific results obtained during the cruise are briefly considered. The main presentation refers to events that are not directly related to the scientific program of the cruise, but left unforgettable impressions for its participants: atolls and islands seen for the first time in the open ocean, crossing the equator and the Neptune’s fiest, the first visits to foreign ports, contacts with local people / scientists, meeting with a typhoon. The presentation of these events is based on the memoirs of the participants of the cruise (N. V. Parin, G. B. Udintsev, and K. N. Fedorov) and illustrated with photographs from the archive of K. N. Fedorov (all photos are published for the first time).
