The Argo-based model for investigation of the Global Ocean: a synthesis of observations and numerical modeling
Abstract
We present the newly developed at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences Argo-Based Model for Investigation of the Global Ocean (AMIGO), which consists of a block for variational interpolation of the profiles of drifting Argo floats to a regular grid and a block for model hydrodynamic adjustment of variationally interpolated fields. Such a technique makes it possible to obtain a complete set of oceanographic characteristics from irregularly located Argo measurements: temperature, salinity, density, and current velocity. The calculations cover the 10-year period from 2005 to 2014; the data are represented as monthly, seasonal, and annual means and climatological fields with the one degree spatial resolution.
