ON THE 100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF VITALY IVANOVICH VOITOV (1926–1997)
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Vitaly Ivanovich Voitov, a Soviet and Russian scientist, initiator and head of hydro–optical research at the Institute of Oceanology. Almost 30 years have passed since the passing of V. I. Voitov, who outlived by 8 years his senior colleague M. V. Kozlyaninov, the father of the founder of the science of ocean optics, with whom V. I. Voitov has a very similar fate: both veterans, went through the war on MO-4 patrol boats only in different seas, in the same year They came to the Institute of Oceanology, and each of them created his own laboratory. Voitov was a talented organizer of expedition work. Dr. Voitov spent his entire life at sea, returning to submit results and reports and prepare for the next expedition. It is difficult to estimate the number of expeditions he participated in, but it is known that he organized seven major oceanographic expeditions to various parts of the world’s oceans. In 1965, Voitov was appointed head of the Optical Oceanography Group, and in 1979, he became the head of the Optical Oceanography Department within the Laboratory of Hydrooptics. Later, in 1992, he became the head of the Bottom Layer Optics Laboratory.
