Abstract
On July 26, 2024, one of the oldest employee of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, General Director of Gidromarinn LLC Lev Romanovich Merklin turned 85 years old. L. R. Merklin worked at the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences from 1974 to 2020. For many years, he has been engaged in expeditionary and scientific-teaching work, including at international meetings and conferences. L. R. Merklin participated in more than 40 long-term scientific marine expeditions.
