Senior Professor at the University of Sao Paulo and Research Fellow at the American University of Sharjah. Investigator CNPq Level 1A; Member elected of the International Sigma Xi Honor Society; Permanent member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Specialist in Large Scale Ocean Circulation, Ocean-Atmosphere Circulation and the Role of the Ocean in the Climate System. BS (1979) & MS (1981) in Physics at the University of Brasília (Brazil). PhD in Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at RSMAS/University of Miami (1990). Worked since July/1990 at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of Sao Paulo (IOUSP), until retirement as Full Professor, in Feb/2016. Currently, maintains the positions of Professor Collaborator and Coordinator of the IOUSP's Ocean Modeling and Observations Laboratory (LABMON). Since Sep/2018, has been a Research Fellow and Chair of the Research Committee of the Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science, at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. He is a Member of the Committee on Ocean Sciences and Antarctica of the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology; Member of the International GO-SHIP Scientific Committee; Member of Executive Committees of the International Association for the Physical Sciences of the Ocean (IAPSO) and of the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (SAMOC) International Executive Committee. Throughout his career published over one hundred scientific papers and advised over 40 graduate student and post-doc fellows.
