This article presents a specialized metadata profile for oceanographic expedition data, developed in accordance with the requirements of GOST R 57668-2017 and the international standard ISO 19115. The central element of the work is a UML model that formalizes the metadata structure and ensures semantic compatibility with international information infrastructures (EMODnet, OBIS, SeaDataNet) and compliance with the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. The model is built around the MD_Metadata class, which serves as a container for all descriptive information, and includes four key blocks: identification information (MD_ Identification), information on the method of data acquisition (MI_AcquisitionInformation), data lineage (LI_Lineage), and distribution conditions (MD_Distribution). This structure allows capturing not only the static characteristics of the dataset (spatial, temporal, and thematic boundaries, purpose, and status) but also the dynamic aspects of its life cycle—from the instruments and platforms used to the sequence of processing steps and source materials. A distinctive feature of the proposed profile is its emphasis on the “digital life history” of each observation dataset: the model includes elements for a formalized description of the temporal resolution of measurements, spatial coverage, collection methodology, and equipment calibration protocols—parameters critical for the verification of results and secondary analysis. Implementing the profile as a UML diagram (with the MD_Metadata, MD_Identification, EX_Extent, TM_ Duration, and other classes) provides a rigorous semantic structure suitable for automated data validation, retrieval, and integration. The practical significance of this work lies in creating a tool for overcoming the fragmentation of oceanographic data and improving its suitability for interdisciplinary and international research. The novelty of the work lies in the development of the first specialized metadata profile for oceanographic expeditions—fully compliant with GOST R 57668-2017—and its software implementation, which enables practical application. The proposed profile can be used in database design, cataloging service development, and the construction of distributed scientific data management infrastructures.
