TO THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF ROSTISLAV VSEVOLODOVICH OZMIDOV (1928–1998)

Abstract

A summary of the life path and basic scientific achievements (the dependence of the lateral eddy diffusivity in the ocean on the length scale of the phenomenon, the limitation of the vertical size of 3D turbulent vortices in a stably stratified medium – the Ozmidov’s scale, intermittency of ocean turbulence) of the outstanding Russian ocean physicist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences R.V. Ozmidov, who successfully combined scientific activity with fostering of young researchers.
