Prof. Sergey Konovalov is a well-known ocean scientist. Among his most important achievements, which have received wide international recognition – are the development of ideas about the formation and evolution of the biogeochemical structure of the Black sea, the adaptation of the hydrochemical structure of the sea to anthropogenic load and observed climate changes, and the development of methods and principles for integrated coastal environment management. He is the author and co-author of more than 150 scientific papers in national and international publications. At present, scientific interests of the scientist associated with the study of the parameterization of the physical, geochemical and biogeochemical processes, conceptual and numerical models of the evolution of the hydrochemical components of marine ecosystems, research numerical methods of the role of natural processes and anthropogenic impact on the budget of hydrochemical components in water and carrying capacity of the Black sea, assessment of the influence of anthropogenic CO2, assessment of the contribution of anthropogenic sources of nutrients, assessment of the impact of climate change on the distribution and content of oxygen and hydrogen sulfide in sea waters, assessment of conditions for sustainable development and catastrophic changes in the marine ecosystem.
