Abstract

On July 22, 2026, Roman V. Gorbunov, Doctor of Geographical Sciences and Acting Director of the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will celebrate his 40th birthday. For a researcher, an anniversary is not a milestone in summing up the results, but only a closer look at the passed stage, which turned out to be intense and multidimensional. During his professional journey, Dr. Roman Gorbunov has not only achieved notable scientific results, but also implemented large-scale organisational and managerial initiatives that have reinforced the influence and standing of leading scientific organisations in Crimea, Sevastopol, and the Russian Federation.
