Abstract

This year we celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Anatoly Dmitrievich Shcherbinin, a famous oceanologist, experimenter and veteran who kept the honor and created the glory of the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Shcherbinin created the first climate Oceanographic Data Bank of the Indian Ocean, published a 12-volume atlas monograph of the fields of temperature, salinity, density, electrical conductivity and speed of sound, summarized in the monograph “Formation and Variability of Hydrophysical Fields of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans”, as well as four thematic monographs in publishing house «Hydrometeoizdat». For these works, he was twice awarded the M.Yu. Shokalsky Prize.
